Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (David Yates, 2010)

"I'm so tired. Will we ever be free of these movies?"
What's it about? If you haven't heard of this fella Harry Potter, this isn't the best place to start. Go and watch the first 6 films in the series first or read the books. For everyone else, here's a recap of the increasingly convoluted story so far. This instalment sees Harry, Ron and Hermione go on the run to escape the Death Eaters.

Is it any good? The final Harry Potter book has been split into two films in a cynical attempt to milk the franchise for more money in an artistic decision to do justice to the source material. Unfortunately, this part goes nowhere fast and whereas the previous couple of films were suitably dark and intense, this is merely dark and in tents. Unfavourable comparisons with Lord of the Rings are inevitable as our heroes set out on a quest to destroy the Horcruxes, which will mean the end of the Dark Lord Voldemort. Overall, a dull and rather pointless affair.

I don't trust you. What do others think? Anyone who has stuck it out this far is hardly going to stop watching now - predictably joins the other instalments near the top of the all-time box office charts.

Anything else I should know? So you'll know where I'm coming from with the rest of the series. Part 1 & 2; okay. Part 3; very good, best of the series. Part 4; okay. Part 5: very good shift into darker territory. Part 6; good, if a little aimless. If truth be told, it's the likes of Alan Rickman, Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes et al that keep the whole thing at all interesting.

What does the Fonz think? Lord of the Horcruxes - disappointing.
