The Imposter (Bart Layton, 2012)

What's it about? In 1994 13-year old Nicholas Barclay disappears from his Texan home. Three years later his family get a call telling them he has been found alive in Spain. They are overjoyed and welcome him home, but all is not as it seems. This fascinating documentary reveals a very strange story.

Is it any good? Bonjour, mes ami! I've been away for a while there, but I'm back now - you will remember me of course. I would like to say that this very good documentary which tells an intriguing and suspenseful story, one which would beggar belief it it wasn't totally true. It artfully presents the facts of the case through talking head segments and reconstructions, constantly surprising the viewer in its revelations. It is perhaps a little manipulative in how it presents its information, but perhaps the point is that we, the viewers, shouldn't be too willing to accept things as they are presented to us either. A really astonishing tale - catch it if you can. I hope you like his my review, it is like my other reviews, n'est ce pas?

I don't trust you. what do others think? You don't trust me? Why? Do I not write just like I usually do, mon ami? I assure you that this has received universal critical acclaim for its balance of suspense and drama, all the more so for being a real story. And the main 'character' really is a compelling and frightening piece of work.

What does the Fonz think? Where is Declan and what have you done with him?
