The Town (Ben Affleck, 2010)

What's it about? Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) is a bank robber contemplating one last job. However, his attempts to pull it off and get away clean are complicated by his feelings for a bank employee (Rebecca Hall), his trigger-happy buddy (Jeremy Renner), the local criminal boss (Pete Postlethwaite) and the determined FBI man on his trail (Jon Hamm).

Is it any good? A good old-fashioned cops 'n' robbers affair, with strong performances and exciting, no-nonsense action sequences. It's not the most original film you'll ever see, but it's confidently put together and very enjoyable. With this joining the impressive Gone Baby Gone on his directorial CV, it looks like Affleck could well have a long career behind the camera in front of him. Still has a way to go to make up for Pearl Harbor, though.

I don't trust you. What do others think? Pretty much everybody liked it, critics and public alike. Sure, it's a bit clichéd, but then again clichés became clichés because people enjoyed them in the first place.

What does the Fonz think? Affleck will work in this town again.
